What actually makes your job adverts attractive to candidates, what matters to them and gets you better results?
One of the main parts of my role is helping companies understand the need to attract staff. To flip things around from the candidate's point of view.
Many of the company “adverts” that I review are job descriptions and lists of company requirements; subsequently, they receive few decent applications.
Yes, we need to be balanced and explain the responsibilities, but why would a performing candidate leave a current role for a job described like this? Without anything that matters to them and anything that gets them emotionally engaged.
What really matters to candidates? Here are some things you should add:
❓ YOUR WHY: What is your company about, what’s your vision, your mission and your long-term plan
🚀 FUTURE: How can the candidate fit into this and what is the progression/training/growth on offer
💰 SALARY: Please include a salary and talk about the future progression of this or possible shares, for instance
🙏 MANAGEMENT: What are your ethos, beliefs and ethics, how do you treat staff and customers
🕺 BENEFITS & LIFESTYLE: (Not pension - that’s a legal requirement); I’m talking unlimited holidays, flexible working, share schemes, discounts, use of company facilities, teams, clubs, social events etc
🌇 ENVIRONMENT: What’s the office like, where are you located, is there international travel in the role
❤️ AND if you get stuck, think about why you love working for your company and put that!
Good luck with your adverts.
